Mountain of the future

Synonymous with luxury and prestige, this iconic resort henceforth embraces ecological transition to offer a greener winter paradise.

Cradled between altitudes from 1100 to 1850 metres, Courchevel is renowned for its picturesque beauty and rich natural heritage. Fully aware of its treasures, this iconic resort has implemented numerous initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint and preserve Alpine biodiversity. It encourages slow modes of public transport in a network of free shuttles covering the entire ski domain. In parallel, many recharging terminals have been provided for electric vehicles. Managed by La Société des 3 Vallées (S3V), the resort’s ski lifts run on sustainable electricity. Hydraulic management is then optimized thanks to smart systems which limit waste and recycle part of the water used for artificial snow. Other advances include installation of solar panels on the lake of Le Biollay to develop renewable energy.

Like Le Strato, hotels also subscribe to this approach by adopting environmentally friendly practices such as waste sorting, promotion of local and seasonal produce, reduced water and energy consumption. Recognized as a ‘‘Station Verte’’ and bearing its official label – and the future host of the Winter Olympic Games 2030 –, Courchevel confirms its desire to reconcile the joys of the mountains with respect for the planet, opening the path to more sustainable high-altitude tourism.

Le Strato is reducing its ecological footprint: 60% of its waste is transformed into compost, then collected by a farmer.
