1907
Founded by Abel Rossignol, the Rossignol company was born in a workshop in Voiron in Isère. Passionate about skiing, the skilled cabinetmaker created the very first wood skis in the world. And thanks to them, he won the manufacturer prize of a competition organised by the Touring Club de France.
1937
To promote himself, Abel Rossignol solicited the best athletes and thus was to supply skis to the future French ski legend Emile Allais, who won all three downhill events in the World Championships held in Chamonix.
1956
Thanks to the intervention of Emile Allais, Laurent Boix-Vives, aged 29, purchased the Rossignol family factory in Isère with the aim to place the company on the international scene. 8,000 pairs of skis were now being manufactured yearly.
1960
At the Squaw Valley Olympic Games, the French skier Jean Vuarnet won the gold medal wearing a pair of “Allais 60”, the very first metal skis. Rossignol thus opened a new era in technology in ski competitions.
1964
Continuing in its momentum, a few years later, Rossignol designed its first pair of skis in fibreglass, the legendary Strato. This ski enabled several generations of skiers to win gold medals, and over a million pairs were sold!
1967
Rossignol purchased the Dynastar ski factory founded four years earlier in Sallanches, Haute-Savoie.
1970
In less than fifteen years, Laurent Boix-Vives had managed to raise Rossignol to the first position in the world for ski equipment. The company opened factories in the United-States.
1977
Laurent Boix-Vives was awarded the title of Chevalier of the National Order of Merit, and later appointed Officer and then Commander.
1989
Rossignol bought Lange, the internationally renowned manufacturer of top of the range ski boots. Laurent Boix-Vives had been involved in the promotion of the brand in several countries. Now the first Rossignol ski boot was ready to be launched.
2005
Almost fifty years after purchasing Rossignol, Laurent Boix-Vives stepped down. Just the year before, the company had celebrated the fabrication of its fifty millionth pair of skis!
