Over the years, the chic and glamorous resort of Courchevel has made its mark as an essential showcase for contemporary art.
Salvador Dalí, Michel Bassompierre, Julien Marinetti, Lorenzo Quinn, Jean-Michel Folon, Bruno Catalano… Many renowned artists have displayed their work in different spots in Courchevel. In a cobbled street, on snowy slopes, even at the top of cable railways, their work never ceases to delight young and old alike. Each winter, the ‘‘diamond of the snow’’ is transformed into a real open-air museum hosting monumental sculptures, ephemeral installations and other pictorial creations. Flagship events include ‘‘L’Art au Sommet’’, proposing an artistic circuit around the resort to fans of the slopes, art-lovers and the simply curious who make unexpected discoveries. Such as Richard Orlinski’s famous red gorilla or bronze sculptures by Jiménez Deredia in the 2024 edition. For this event, this artist born in Costa Rica was inspired by pre-Colombian spheres by the Borucas tribe to create eight works of generous proportions, holding a harmonious dialogue with surrounding nature.
Throughout the winter season, art can also be admired in galleries which hold opening nights and encounters with artists. Artistic performances, screenings of documentaries, lectures... A rich programme offering visitors total immersion in the world of contemporary art. For several years, prestigious hotels have also participated in this activity, including Le Strato. Inside the hotel, canvases signed Anselme Boix-Vives adorn the walls. Still today, the legacy of the painter in the family that owns the hotel lives on. This taste for art has also been demonstrated through exceptional collaborations. American graffiti artist JonOne, illustrator Soledad Bravi and sculptor Richard Orlinski set their imprints on the revolutionary ski created by Laurent Boix-Vives: the Strato... for the hotel bearing its name, of course!
